Fostering community in the lapidary arts
Shasta Gem and Mineral Society, Inc. is a member of the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies. We are a 501(c)3 dedicated to increasing the knowledge of gems, minerals, fossils and lapidary arts. Meetings, programs, classes, open workshop, field trips and annual October Gem Show promote the friendship of fellow rockhounds.
As one of the oldest gem and mineral clubs in California, SGMS has been a cornerstone of the local community for decades. We exist to promote and share knowledge of gems, minerals, fossils, and the lapidary arts with enthusiasts in Shasta County and beyond.
Through hands-on workshops, reading materials, classes, and field trips, our activities foster learning, encourage exploration, and inspire fellowship among fellow rockhounds.
SGMS is all about community involvement. We host gem shows, educational exhibits, wire-wrapping and silversmithing classes, social gatherings, and more. Our members range from casual hobbyists to experienced mineral collectors—and we believe everyone has something to share.
Whether you’re brand-new to geology or a seasoned pro, you’ll find a place in our club to explore, connect, and deepen your knowledge.
We always welcome new members! Membership entitles you to full access to our lapidary workshop, and enables participation in a host of other classes, field trips, and other events and activities.
Our club is fostered on volunteerism to keep our workshop running well and our activities and events successful. Members are encouraged to spend some time toward the betterment of the club.
The Shasta Gem and Mineral Society (SGMS) is a non-profit organization and proud member of the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies and the Superior California Association.
